Online education vs traditional education Essay
For a long time we have been instructing customarily to youngsters with differing results, over the most recent two decades with the developing innovation another type of training has shaped, online training. With secondary school being a critical time in adolescents life guardians and teachers have addressed is online instruction better for understudies over conventional techniques. In the hunt to make sense of which is better individuals have accumulated proof including studies, surveys, and exploration on the impact online instruction has on understudies. My first source utilized is composed by Dan Lips, an article called ââ¬Å"How Online Learning Is Revolutionizing K-12 Education and Benefiting Studentsâ⬠for the Heritage Foundation. The authorââ¬â¢s tone is formal and powerful. In the article he utilizes proof, for example, realities, studies, and surveys to convince the perusers to see the significance of virtual training. Dan Lips utilizes prominent individuals who composed books on virtual figuring out how to expand validity to his case. The subsequent source, ââ¬Å"Studentsââ¬â¢ dissatisfactions with a Web-based separation training courseâ⬠by Noriko Hara and Rob Kling distributed in the online diary First Monday. This is an article dependent on the investigation the writers did on how understudies felt took a crack at an online class in school. While this is an article dependent on the sentiments of undergrads this applies to the secondary school online instruction as they base secondary school online training on school online instruction so they are going to run into similar issues. The writers of this article were nonpartisan to the investigation and were simply announcing what wasn't right with separation adapting so as not to inclination the outcomes, and to get how the educator and understudies feel about web based learning. The writers utilize this article to alert understudies, instructors, and schools on a portion of the things amiss with online training and to not overlook the awful sides of online training on account of generally acclaim towards it. My last source is ââ¬Å"Online High Schools Test Studentsââ¬â¢ Social Skillsâ⬠by Paul Glader examines the effect of online instruction on adolescents socially. Glader found that understudies tried out online secondary school frequently drop out because of the reality of them feeling desolate. The online secondary schools are attempting to discover approaches to cause youngsters to get to know each other in the virtual study halls. Secondary school is a vital time in everyoneââ¬â¢s life that can shape your future.

Different Styles of Imitation Essay
In The Transmission of Knowledge by Juan Luis Vives, Vives depicts his concept of legitimate impersonation. His fundamental hypothesis is that individuals are not inherently brought into the world with abilities of workmanship or talk and in this manner, these aptitudes are acquired through the impersonation of other talented specialists or rhetoricians. This thought is corresponding to those of Petrarch and Alberti. Petrarch and Vives both state that legitimate impersonation ought to be closely resembling the manner in which a child looks like his dad. Vives says ââ¬Å"A child is supposed to resemble his dad, less in that he reviews his highlights, his face and structure, but since shows to us his fatherââ¬â¢s habits, his mien, his discussion, his walk, his developments, and in a manner of speaking his very life, which gives forward in his activities as he travels to another country, from the inward seat of the soul, and demonstrates his genuine self to us.â⬠(190) Petrarch says, comparatively, ââ¬Å"As soon as we see the child, he reviews the dad to us, in spite of the fact that on the off chance that we should quantify each component we should discover them all different.â⬠(199) The dad to child likeness is the premise of impersonation to both these creators. The two of them accept that a decent author should utilize impersonation in a manner where what they copy looks like the first, yet does it not copy it. For Petrarch and Vives, this can be accomplished by appropriately coordinating perusing with composing. The two of them accept that by understanding something and having the option to process it completely, one can ship the general thought and sentiment of what he read onto his own composition. This makes a profound impersonation, instead of replicating what an author says in various words. The two creators utilize the dad to child similitude to show that impersonation ought to be significant and reminiscent. Petrarch supplements this thought by asserting that perusing ought to be an alterative to encounter. As one would as it were ââ¬Å"experienceâ⬠the dad through the child, one ought to comparatively have the option to encounter the writer an author emulates. To outline this he referrers to ââ¬Å"wanderingâ⬠and ââ¬Å"transportâ⬠all through his works. In particular, Petrarch trades composing with experience when he portrays climbing Mont Ventroux. He says ââ¬Å"But nature isn't overwhelmed by a manââ¬â¢s gadgets; a bodily thing can't arrive at the statures by descendingâ⬠and, further, ââ¬Å"there I jumped in my winged idea from things mortal to what is ethereal and tended to myself in words like theseâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (39) The physical and profound are connected so intently together that they transport and cover each other. As indicated by Petrarch, qualities like this are attributes of a decent imitator. Vives additionally identifies with the sort of impersonation which trades the real activity with profound. He portrays an address, which connections activities with talk. He says ââ¬Å"But these advanced imitators respect less the brain of the speaker in his demeanor, as the outward appearance of his words and the outer for of his style.â⬠(191) Both scholars accept that by exchanging techne which mind, one can appropriately impersonate and rise above a more profound centrality of what the essayist is mirroring. In spite of the fact that Petrarch and Vives share comparable thoughts, they likewise hold an opposing conviction: Petrarch just copies Cicero, while Vives accepts that one ought to emulate a few models to make a solitary work. In spite of the fact that Vives obviously expresses that Cicero is the best model for writing in the conversational style: ââ¬Å"Caesar and Epistles of Cicero will come into the primary position of conversational style,â⬠(192) he likewise expresses that one ought to contain composing by mirroring a few journalists: ââ¬Å"The more models we have and the less similarity there is between them, the more prominent is the advancement of eloquence.â⬠(190) Foremost, Petrarch isn't writing in the conversational style, rather he utilizing the plain style. In this manner, he should copy another essayist from the rundown Vives has determined. Likewise, Petrarch is just keen on mirroring one essayist, Cicero. He guards the Ciceronian custom by composing just in Ciceroââ¬â¢s style. Thus, Petrarch doesn't peruse different scholars, similar to Dante, since he is worried about the possibility that that he will end up being the result of what he peruses, thoughts and style. Rather he drenches himself in Ciceroââ¬â¢s style by perusing his work in such profundity that he basically writes in Ciceroââ¬â¢s style without realizing he is doing as such. Vives regards Ciceroââ¬â¢s work, however he doesn't accept that Cicero is the best essayist. Other than Vivesââ¬â¢ conviction that Petrarch ought to have imitated a few conversationalists, Vives additionally expresses that ââ¬Å"imitation of Ciceroââ¬â¢s work is helpful and safe, yet not of his style; for on the off chance that anybody can't make progress in the endeavor he will decline into repetitive, nerveless, disgusting and plebeian sort of writer.â⬠(191) Therefore, the contrast among Vives and Petrarch is that Vives accepts that one ought to impersonate a few authors and that Cicero isn't the best essayist. Further, he offers a rundown of authors which ought to be imitated when attempting to accomplish a specific style. Petrarch, then again, writes in Ciceroââ¬â¢s style and accepts that Cicero ought to be imitated while taking part in each sort of composing. Alberti was a creator who was increasingly similar to Vives in this sense. He likewise accepted that one should grasp all the things which would make something delightful into one. For instance, he says that all expressions are connected to painting some way or another, and that all expressions take from join the aptitudes related with painting into their works: ââ¬Å"The planner, on the off chance that I am not mixed up, takes from the painter architraves, bases, capitals, segments, fa㠯⠿â ½ades and other comparative things. All the smiths, stone carvers, shops and organizations are administered by the guidelines and specialty of the painter. It is hardly conceivable to locate any prevalent craftsmanship which isn't worried about painting. with the goal that whatever magnificence is seen as supposed to be conceived of painting .â⬠(Book II) Furthermore, it was essential to Alberti to copy the laws of nature, as opposed to nature itself. He called attention to that a desig ner should copy the structure of the real world and the geometry covered up in actuality. Like Vives and Petrarch, Alberti joined the real with the profound to make the ideal workmanship. Be that as it may, he takes after Vives, as in he accepts that one ought to mirror a few things to make a certain something. One distinction among Alberti and Vives is that Vives accepts that one should begin mimicking an individual who isn't the best at what he does, however somebody who is superior to the imitator. In the long run, as indicated by Vives, one ought to have the option to climb in rank and copy the best. He says ââ¬Å"it is an astute statute of M. Fabius Quintilian that young men ought not from the outset endeavor to ascend to imitating of their lord, in case their quality bomb them. A simpler and faster technique will be to let them impersonate somebody more learned than themselves among their colleagues, and battling with him let them bit by bit ascend to replicating their lord himself.â⬠(189) Alberti doesn't make reference to this strategy for impersonation. Rather he says that with regards to craftsmanship, on must have ââ¬Å"the favors of nature.â⬠(Book I) at the end of the day, Alberti firmly accepts that one ought to have a characteristic ability for what he is doing, a nd that the progressive chain of progress isn't really a set up strategy, as Vives shows. Likewise, Alberti utilizes a style that is short and to the point. He says ââ¬Å"I ask that I might be acquitted if, where I over all desire to be comprehended, I have given more consideration to making my words understood than resplendent. I accept what follows will be less repetitive to the peruser. (Book I) This kind of honesty is a recognized style of composing. He utilizes straightforward talk with the goal that his crowd can get a handle on the thought rapidly. This sort of style relates to the kind of workmanship he is expounding on. He says that he expounding on another sort of workmanship: ââ¬Å"We are, in any case, assembling again a specialty of painting about which nothing, from my perspective, has been composed since this age.â⬠(Book II) His new style is copying his idea of having an alternate kind of manual towards craftsmanship. Additionally, his primary is to outfit away from the Ancients and more towards the Florentine. By changing his style of composing he is accomplishing this, not just through what he saying about graduating craftsmanship from mechanical to liberal, yet in addition through his style and techne. Both Alberti and Vives invest energy talking about topic. Vives separates who ought to be imitated dependent regarding the matter of the piece being essayist. Correspondingly, Alberti focuses on the topic of the artistic creation. He says that a picture can just bring joy of the topic of the work of art brings joy. Alberti accepts that one must mimic the inclination he needs the watcher to have in the subject of his canvas for the fine art to be effective. This is the thing that Vives is stating when he outlines that one must pick the best essayist in the subject that he needs to expound on and copy that style to be effective. Both Petrarch and Alberti can be contrasted and Vives and his thoughts on impersonation. To every one of the three journalists impersonation assumes an enormous job on the best way to introduce composed and imaginative works. Every one of them three accept that impersonation of others will prompt achievement. Further, they accept that impersonation is the best way to figure out how to compose appropriately. Alberti includes another supposition: he says that to be the best, one must copy, however before the impersonation procedure happens, one must have a characteristic ability for workmanship. Petrarch and Alberti both accept that one must copy what they accept is the correct custom through their styles. Petrarch puts stock in the Ciceronian convention and follows in Ciceroââ¬â¢s strides by copying his style. Alberti is more worried about comprehension than the utilization of smooth language. Generally speaking, to every one of the three authors impersonation assumes a gigantic jo b in their comprehension of how composed work

Idiosyncratic Book Shelving 101
Idiosyncratic Book Shelving 101 When my husband and I bought our house six years ago, we merged our bookshelves for the very first time. Neither of us had a shelving system we were overly attached to (I just put things where I could fit them, and he added books in the order he read them), so we decided to make one up. Why alphabetize or genre-sort when we could do something wholly original, something that only made sense to the two of us because who cares if anyone else understands our bookshelves? After spending the first quarter of this year renovating our living room, complete with new built-in shelves and a reading nook, we got to pull our books out of the boxes theyd been tucked away in for three months and have another go at The Shelving System That Only We Understand. Heres what happened. First, we took out all the books and spread them on the floor. You try sorting hundreds of books and not getting frizzy hair. As we went through our collections, we made stacks of books that just felt like they went together because of connections in voice, theme, author, or what they reminded us of. The husband hadnt weeded his collection EVER, and I hadnt weeded in the six years since we moved into the house, so we also got rid of A LOT of books. Were talking duplicates (and triplicates.and sixtuplicates, which is a word now, because we had six, count em, copies of Catch-22), galleys of books I later bought in hardcover, things we enjoyed but are never going to read again, and the ones wed had sitting around but have absolutely zero desire to keep forever. There are books in every room of our house, and were running out of wall space for shelves, so it was time to say goodbye. Heres a look at the giveaway pile in progress. At the finish line, we had 19 bags of books to donate. As we sorted through the boxes, each of us made mini-piles of books we wanted to group together. Then we compared our mini-piles, combined the ones that were similar-ish, and started shelving. My husband calls this process heat mapping, as in, the closer one title is to another, the more they have in common, the hotter their connection. You know, according to our super-specific system. First, we tackled the new built-in shelf. 1) Old books, collectibles, and newish books that look collectible with their jackets off 2) Vonnegut, humor, thrillers, manly books we didnt have other homes for 3) Quirky/weird/dark fiction with awesome coversplus Ayn Rand and some John Krakauer because who knows, we were drinking 4) Badass lady writers 5) Sex and food because LOGIC. Heres a closer look at the two bottom shelves, which people seem most interested in so far. Yes, thats Jenna Jameson sitting atop the Hite Report and the famous Kinsey study. Then we moved over to the reading nook, where we resolved to keep weeding until we could fit everything onto the three shelves and have open space for adding books in the future. Culling completed, we finalized our heat mapped piles and starting placing them wherever there was room. 1) The Complete Calvin Hobbes, plus a few humor titles that needed homes, plus engagement picture from the Kansas City Public Library. 2) The complete Toni Morrison (stacked), African and African-American fiction, Dumas, and Dickens 3) Fiction with fantasy, magic realism, mindfuckery. Also a misshelved David Grann essay collection. 4) Anne Rice and the Master Commander series. 5) Harry Potter, The Hitchhikers Guide, Chronicles of Narnia, assorted C.S. Lewis theology 6) War novels, war history, mob stories 7) Contemporary fiction and YA 8) Essays and creative nonfiction 9) Memoirs, plus novels by Barbara Kingsolver, Jhumpa Lahiri, Margaret Atwood (who would all be on the Badass Lady Writer shelf if I had more room). 10) Classics 11) All-time favorites and complicated relationships: Mary Doria Russell, Adam Ross, Jennifer Egan, Donna Tartt, Michel Faber, Gillian Flynn, among others. 12) Middle-Aged White Guy Problems 13) Assorted dude books 14) Short story collections, books about books 15) More classics And heres a closer look at the favorites shelf and the Middle-Aged White Guy Problems collection. This concludes your daily dose of bookshelf voyeurism. Now tell me, readers, how do YOU shelve your books? Any crazy systems you want to share? ____________________ Book Riot Live is coming! Heidelberg Cement Bangladesh Ltd, one of the group companies of Heidelberg Cement Group, founded in Germany in 1873, with its core products being cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates and related activities, is one of the leading producers of building materials worldwide. Meghna Cement Mills Ltd is the first manufacturing unit of Bashundhara Group and it is one of the largest cement industries in the country producing nearly 1 million metric tons a year. The company is listed with both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges. The last observed Share price of the company from 2011 was 136. 0 Taka/share. Although itââ¬â¢s a domestic company compared to The Heidelberg Cement, it gives quite a completion to the Heidelberg Group in Bangladesh as we are going to observe in the following part of this project. Ratio Analysis: When we calculate the ratios of a firm we have to go through five major categories of ratios as follows: * Liquidity Ratio : Which determines if the firm can make required payments for its maturing financial responsibilities through Liquid Cash drawn from its Assets * Productivity Ratio: Which measures the ability of a firm to generate Sales from its employed Assets Leverage Ratio: These ratios put a light on the Financial Leverages of a firm and the ability of that firm to meet those Financial Leverages effectively. * Profitability Ratio: These ratios measure how efficiently a unit of sales is turned into profit for the company * Valuation Ratio: These ratios are used to assess how the market is valuing the firm (share price) in relationship to assets and current earnings, profits and dividends. Liquidity Ratio: There are three different ratios under liquidity ratios as follows; * Current Ratio * Working Capital Ratio Quick Ratio 1) Current Ratio: Measures the number of units of current assets to pay out for each unit of current liabilities. The formula for Current Ratio: Current Ratio = Current AssetsCurrent Liabilities Current Ratio = Cur rent AssetsCurrent Liabilities Company name| 2011| 2010| 2009| Heidelberg cement| 0. 56 (x)| 0. 17 (x)| 0. 56 (x)| Meghna cement| 0. 70 (x)| 0. 64 (x)| 0. 66 (x)| Interpretation: In 2009 Heidelbergââ¬â¢s working capital ratio was 0. 56 (x) and in 2010 and in 2011 its working capital was 0. 17 (x) and 0. 56 (x) which implies its current asset went down and total asset went up in 2010. In 2009 Meghnaââ¬â¢s working capital ratio was 0. 66 and in 2010 and in 2011 its working capital was 0. 64 and 0. 70 which I plies its current assent went down and total assent went up in 2010. Heidelberg holds a constant working capital ratio which decreased in 2010 and they managed to pull it up in 2011 where as Meghnaââ¬â¢s working capital increased gradually from 2009 to 2011. You read "Strategic Financial Ratio Analysis" in category "Papers" 2) Working Capital Ratio: This Ratio measures the percentage of total assets that is invested in current assets. The formula of Working Capital Ratio: Working Capital Ratio = Current AssetsTotal Assets Working Capital Ratio = Current AssetsTotal Assets Company name| 2011| 2010| 2009| Heidelberg cement| 0. 56 (x)| 0. 17 (x)| 0. 56 (x)| Meghna cement| 0. 70 (x)| 0. 64 (x)| 0. 66 (x)| Interpretation: In 2009 Heidelbergââ¬â¢s working capital ratio was 0. 56(x) and in 2010 and in 2011 its working capital was 0. 17 (x) and 0. 56 (x) which implies its current asset went down and total asset went up in 2010. In 2009 Meghnaââ¬â¢s working capital ratio was 0. 66 (x) and in 2010 and in 2011 its working capital was 0. 64 (x) and 0. 70 (x) which implies its current asset went down and total asset went up in 2010. Heidelberg holds a constant working capital ratio which decreased in 2010 and they managed to pull it up in 2011 where as Meghnaââ¬â¢s working capital increased gradually from 2009 to 2011. 3) Quick Ratio: The quick ratio gives a clearer indication of the firmââ¬â¢s ability to meet its maturing financial obligations out of current, liquid assets. The formula for the Quick Ratio: Quick Ratio = Current Assets-InventoriesCurrent Liabilities Quick Ratio = Current Assets-InventoriesCurrent Liabilities Company name| 2011| 2010| 2009| Heidelberg Cement| 1. 61(x)| 1. 74 (x)| 1. 51 (x)| Meghna Cement| 0. 86 (x)| 0. 80 (x)| 0. 79 (x)| Interpretation: In 2011 Heidelbergââ¬â¢s current asset without its inventory was 1. 61 (x) and in 2010 and 2009 it was 1. 74 (x) and 1. 51 (x) its current liabilities. In 2011 Meghnaââ¬â¢s current asset without its inventory was 0. 86 (x) and in 2010 and in 2009 it was 0. 80 (x) and 0. 79 (x) its current liabilities. Heidelbergââ¬â¢s performance declined over the year of 2009 to 2011. This decrease can be attributed to the fact that the relevant change in its current liabilities was more than the relevant change in its current asset and inventory. Whereas its competitor Meghna cementââ¬â¢s performance increased over the year. Productivity Ratios: There are five different ratios under the criterion of Productivity Ratio: * Receivable Turnover Ratio * Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) * Inventory Turnover * Total asset turnover ratio * Fixed Asset turnover Ratio 4) Total Asset Turnover Ratio (TA TO): This ratio estimates the number of units in Sales, produced by each units investment in the companyââ¬â¢s Assets ; TA TO = Net SalesTotal Assets TA TO = Net SalesTotal Assets The formula for TA TO: Company name| 2011| 2010| 2009| Heidelberg Cement| 1. 0631 (x)| 1. 1586 (x)| 1. 1951 (x)| Meghna Cement| 1. 844 (x)| 1. 5855 (x)| 1. 4189 (x)| Interpretation: In 2009 Heidelbergââ¬â¢s TA TO was 1. 1951 (x), in 2010 and 2011 itââ¬â¢s TA TO was 1. 1586 (x) and 1. 0631 (x) of its Total Assets In 2009 Meghnaââ¬â¢s TA TO was 1. 4189 (x), in 2010 and 2011 itââ¬â¢s TA TO was 1. 5855 (x) and 1. 4844 (x) of its Total Assets Both the two companyââ¬â¢s TA TO s are relatively close to each other. However Meghnaââ¬â¢s Ratios are a li ttle bit higher than Heidelbergââ¬â¢s. So we could say that over the past three years Meghna has shown a little bit more efficiency than Heidelberg in utilizing its total assets for generating sales. In this scenario Meghanaââ¬â¢s performance as a competitor is better than Heidelberg Cement 5) Fixed Asset Turnover Ratio (FA TO): This ratio estimates the number of units in Sales, produced by each unit investment in the companyââ¬â¢s Net Fixed Assets; FA TO = Net SalesNet Fixed Assets FA TO = Net SalesNet Fixed Assets The formula for FA TO: Company name| 2011| 2010| 2009| Heidelberg Cement| 2. 4539 (x)| 3. 0817(x)| 2. 7202 (x)| Meghna Cement| 4. 9925 (x)| 4. 3774 (x)| 4. 1159 (x)| Interpretation: In 2009 Heidelbergââ¬â¢s FA To was 2. 7202 (x) and in 2010 it went up to 3. 817 (x) of its Fixed Assets. But in 2011 the FA TO went down to 2. 4539 (x), the companyââ¬â¢s Fixed Assets. This indicates that in 2011 Heidelberg invested more in its Current Assets in comparison to the previous years. As a result the company was generating fewer sales from its Fixed Assets compared to 2009 2010. In 2009 Meghnaââ¬â¢s FA TO was 4. 1159 (x) its Fixed Assets. In 2010 and 2011 the FA TO was 4. 3774 (x) and 4. 9925 (x) of its Fixed Assets. Meghna had a significant rise in its FA TO over the years. This means they are utilizing their Fixed Assets more efficiently for generating sales. Over the years Meghna has shown efficiency in utilizing its Fixed Assets and has generated significantly higher sales, on the other hand Heidelbergââ¬â¢s Sales generating capacity from its Fixed Assets has declined. So Meghna holds an upper hand when it comes to utilize its Fixed Assets effectively. Leverage Ratios: There are four different ratios under the criterion of Productivity Ratio: * Debt to Asset ratio: * Debt to Equity: * Times Interest Earned: * Cash Flow to Debt ratio: 1) Debt to Asset Ratio: This ratio indicates the proportion of total assets financed by debt at a particular point in time; The formula for Debt to Asset Ratio: Debt to Asset = Total LiabilitiesTotal Assets X 100 Debt to Asset = Total LiabilitiesTotal Assets X 100 Company name| 2011| 2010| 2009| Heidelberg Cement| 34. 2989 (%)| 33. 7784 (%)| 34. 1261 (%)| Meghna Cement| 83. 5524 (%)| 81. 5425 (%)| 79. 7020 (%)| Interpretation: Heidelberg did not have any significant change in its Debt to Asset Ratio over the year though it went down by a little in 2010. We can see that in 2009, 34 % of its Assets were financed by Debt and in 2010 and 2011 33% and 34% of its Assets were financed by its Liabilities. Heidelberg holds a large proportion of Assets to its Equity and a less proportion to debt. Meghna has a large Debt to Asset Ratio which has a significant rise over the years, from 2009 to 2011 its debt to asset went up from 79% to 83%. Meghna holds a large proportion of Assets financed by its Liabilities. In comparison, Heidelberg has the upper hand In this segment, because it has a lot less Assets exposed to Debt rather than Meghna, which has a large Debt against its Assets. Dupont Analysis: At the end of the project weââ¬â¢d like to draw a concluding summary by using the concept of Dupont Analysis in comparative traits for both of the firms. The Dupont system provides a good starting point for any financial analysis. It shows that financial strength in a company comes from three major sources, rather it focuses on three major segments; * Profitability : Profit generated from a companyââ¬â¢s Sales * Asset Utilization : Sales generated from investment in Assets * Debt Utilization: Portion of Assets that is held against Ownerââ¬â¢s Equity. Return on Equity (ROE) = Net IncomeSales X SalesTotal Asset X Total AssetTotal Equity Or, ROE = Profit Margin (PM) X TA TO X Equity Multiplier (EM) Return on Equity (ROE) = Net IncomeSales X SalesTotal Asset X Total AssetTotal Equity Or, ROE = Profit Margin (PM) X TA TO X Equity Multiplier (EM) So, the formula for Dupont looks like this: Dupont analysis for Heidelberg Cement: From the Ratios we calculated earlier (PM, TA TO EM); we get the following values for ROE by using the Dupont formula: Year| PM| TA TO| EM| ROE| 2011 | 8. 8028%| 1. 0631 (x)| 1. 5220 (x)| 14. 3243%| 2010| 12. 0014%| 1. 1586 (x)| 1. 5101 (x)| 20. 977%| 2009| 11. 5059%| 1. 1951 (x)| 1. 5181 (x)| 20. 8749%| Interpretation: From 2009 to 2010 we can see a slight rise up from 20. 8749% to 20. 9977% in the ROE Ratio for Heidelberg Cement. However from 2010 to 2011 there was major decline in ROE of 20. 9977% to 14. 3243%. Where TA TO and EM remains approximately similar, the ROE falls due to a declining Profit Margin in the year of 2011. So undermining the decline in the Profit Margin, it is safe to say that Heidelberg showed a considerable poor performance in gen erating Profit from its Sales, in the last observed year of 2011. Ambition and the Downfall of Macbeth Essay Example For Students
Ambition and the Downfall of Macbeth Essay Macbeth is one of William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s most powerful and emotionally intense plays. Macbeth, once known for his courage and bravery is transformed into a ruthless tyrant. His wife, Lady Macbeth, once known for her strength and great ambition is soon engulfed by guilt and sensitivity greatly weakens her. As the tragic hero Macbeth is overcome by tensions in his criminal act and the reactions by his conscience (Nix). In the opening act of this play Macbeth is a solider who has just returned from war. The captains are speaking highly of Macbethââ¬â¢s valor, courage, and bravery. Suddenly Macbeth meets up with three witches. These witches tell him, ââ¬Å"All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis, thane of Cawdor, that shalt be king hereafter!â⬠(I.3.48-50). Macbeth currently was the thane of Glamis but at first while Macbeth is in disbelief. This changes when Ross appears informing Macbeth he is now promoted to the thane of Cawdor. The witchââ¬â¢s prophecy has now brought upon the ambition of Macbeth. That night Duncan has decided to be a guest at Macbethââ¬â¢s castle. Macbeth is starting to believe that in order for him to become King he must kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth first appears in Act One as she is reading a letter from her husband. He is telling her of his promotion to the Thane of Cawdor and details of his meeting with the witches. However Lady Macbeth is not entirely sure that her husband will be able to fulfill such prophecies. She says to herself, ââ¬Å"Yet I do fear thy nature; It is too full oââ¬â¢ the milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be geat; act not without ambition, but without the illness should attend itâ⬠(I.5.12-16). After she gets word from a messenger that her husband and King Duncan are on the. .but beast-like (Nix). Macduff later kills Macbeth. Due to the influence of ambition on both characters, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth both end up dead. Compared to the beginning to the end of the play Macbeth and his wife seemed to have switched who they were. No longer did any relationships exist between Macbeth and any other person at the end of the play. For the ambition and greed that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth acted upon, Malcolm summarizes the result of their behavior, ââ¬Å" Producing forth the cruel ministers Of this dead butcher and his fiendlike queenâ⬠(V.VIII.68-69). The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock - Characteristic Downfall Essays
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock - Characteristic Downfall In T.S. Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," the author is establishing the trouble the narrator is having dealing with middle age. Prufrock(the narrator) believes that age is a burden and is deeply troubled by it.. His love of some women cannot be because he feels the prime of his life is over. His preoccupation with the passing of time characterizes the fear of aging he has. The poemdeals with the aging and fears associated with it of the narrator. Prufrock is not confident with himself mentally or his appearance. He is terrified of what will occur when people see his balding head or his slim and aging body. He believes everyone will think he is old and useless. They will talk about him behind his back. (They will say"How is hair is growing thin!") My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin, My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin-- [They will say: "But how his arms and legs are thin!"] This insecurity is definitely a hindrance for him. It holds him back from doing the things he wishes to do. This is the sort of characteristic that makes Alfred into a tragic, doomed character. He will not find happiness until he finds self-assurance within himself. The repetition of words like vision and revision, show his feelings of inadequacy in communicating with the people around him. J. Alfred Prufrock's self esteem affects his love life greatly. The woman he is in love with is younger than he is and this distresses him. He does not believe that some younger women could possibly accept him or find him attractive. Expressing any kind of affection to her is awkward and difficult. Prufrock knows what he must say but cannot bring himself to say it. "Should I, after tea and cakes and ices, Have the strength to force the moment to it's crisis?"(79-80) His apprehensiveness in his love life, is very troublesome for him indeed. He wishes greatly to express his affection but it becomes suppressed within him. He compares himself to Lazarus who was an aged man restored to life by Jesus. He feels that it will take a miracle to make him feel young again. Prufrock sees his age as the end of his romantic zeal. He assumes the response to his love will be snappy and heartless. Prufrock believes that women do not find older men attractive or see a possibility of romance in them. The rhyme scheme Elliot uses in this poem depicts the disenchanted and confused mind of the narrator. The poem is written using a non-uniform meter and rhyme. Various stanzas are not of uniform length. This method is used to represent the mood and feelings in the verse. Prufrock is feeling confused and overwhelmed by the adversities of life so it is logical that his thought will have the same types of characteristics. His thoughts lead to ambiguity such as at the start of the poem. "There you go then, you and I"(1) This could be referring to Prufrock and himself, or Prufrock and his lover. Elliot wrote this poem in a time when social customs were still considered an issue. Everyone had their place and did not vary from that. Stereotypes of groups were lived up to and nobody tried to change it. Elliot uses blatant images of different classes in order to show these dissimilarities. The lower class lived a meager, dull and predictable life. They spend "restless nights in one-night cheap hotels."(6) The rich on the other hand are educated and enjoy life every day. They are busy and bustle around joyfully in order to get things done. In the room the women come and go Talking of Michelangelo.(13-14) Unfortunately, because of his age Prufrock feels that he does not belong to any of these classes. He has similarities pertaining to each of them but as a whole feels that he simply exists in his own classification. The debate in Prufrock's mind finally comes to a close when he compares himself to Prince Hamlet from William Shakespear's masterpiece Hamlet. Hamlet was able to express his love and J. Alfred was envious

Legislative Process
Legislative Process Free Online Research Papers Q: What are the causes of public discontent over the legislature? A: The public discontent of congress has been on a steady decline for many years, and this present congress has a public approval rating of 12%. Surprisingly, individual congressmen generally enjoy higher approval ratings than congress as a whole. Keefe and Ogul discuss in The American Legislative Process some of the reasons for this discontent. Lets look at what they say. 1.The legislature is not sufficiently responsive to majority preferences either in the electorate or within the institution itself. What they are saying is that many times public policy is shaped by a select coalition of individuals regardless of what the majority of voters want, or what the majority of members of congress want. The status quo is what is preferred many times, therefore sharp changes in policy rarely occur. An example are issues like stem cell research, gay marriage, and abortion. Most public opinion polls show that the majority of citizens are in favor of these hot button issues, but congress resist changing public policy in response to majority opinions. The current health care debate is an example of how majority preferences in congress are ignored because of a small coalition of congressmen that have the power to block legislation. 2. Legislative politics and public policy formation are dominated by organized special interest groups. Interest groups or lobbyist are people who represent a particular organization whose sole job is to influence legislators in Washington. They not only have the power to changet public policy, but they also have the power to decide who wins elections. Political endorsements are key to getting elected, and certain interest groups have the power to sway elections. For example, a candidate in a conservative district can gain more votes by getting the endorsement from the NRA(a special interest group which supports individual gun rights and usually backs conservative candidates). Along with the NRA, some other major interest groups are labor unions, teacher unions, farmers unions, along with many more. 3. The legislature is seldom a force for innovation. This criticism rests on the belief that few if any significant changes are likely to result from a new session of the legislature. The caution and conservatism of the legislature, its unwillingness to experiment, and its inability to cast free from conventional ties have served to stunt the interest of the public. The evolution of congress is generally much slower than the evolution of ideas amongst the public. 4. Institutional arrangements in the legislature obscure the publics view of the decision-making process and, moreover, make it difficult to fix responsibility for actions taken by government. What they are saying here is that the legislative functions in a way that makes it hard to follow the course of a bill through the legislative process. It goes through many committees and changes many times, that it is hard to give credit or place blame on one particular legislator or political party as a whole. 5. The legislature is populated by insecure and timorous individuals whose principal aim is to stay in office. Most legislators are career politicians, meaning their main goal is to get elected in a political office and to either stay in office, or move up the political ladder. This causes some politicians to lose touch with their voters and become more responsive to institutional leaders. Q: How does a bill become a law? A: The first step is the origination of bill by resolution, joint resolution, or concurrent resolution by an executive agency, political interest group, individual member, or a bill drafting agency. The bill is then introduced by a member of the House of Representatives. The constitution specifies that revenue bills originate in the House and custom dictates that appropriation bills originate in the House as well. The bill is then referred to a standing committee by House leadership. While in the committee the bill can possibly be referred to a subcommittee or be debated in a closed or open hearing. The committee can disregard, defeat, accept and report, amend and report, or rewrite the bill. The bill then goes to the House floor for debate. There are several readings of the bill, and then it is either passed or defeated. After this process, the bill goes to senate and goes through the same process as in the House. After floor debate in the Senate, a bill can go to a conference comm ittee which may be requested if House and Senate versions of the bill differ. These committees are composed of managers from each house who vote separately and each house must concur in the conference report. If passed, the bill is signed by the Speaker and Vice-President. Then the bill goes to the Presidents desk where he or she has the power to approve, veto, pocket veto, or permit the bill to become law without signature. Q: What are the functions of the legislature? A: There are many functions the legislature must cary out, but the most important is making laws. As mentioned earlier, the law making process is very complicated and goes through a strict process that takes up much of legislators time. Another function of the legislature is to check the administration. Their supervisory role consists of questioning, reviewing and assessing, modifying, and rejecting policies of the administration. For example, Congress has the power to override a Presidents veto power by 2/3 majority vote. Congress also has the power to appoint or reject the Presidents appointments for administrative or judicial positions. The American political system calls for a process of checks and balance, and congress adheres to this by checking the executive branch. Also a function of the legislature is to educate the public. Legislators have the responsibility to inform the public on policy decisions. The law making process is so complicated that it must be explained in a way that average citizens can understand. This is however a two way street, and the public must also be engaged in political matters. Representing constituents, localities, and interest is another major function of the legislature. It should be the duty of legislators to work for and in the interest of their constituents. They are supposed to represent the ideals and values that the people who voted for them share. However, many legislators are not responsive to their districts needs or request because they are able to get elected anyway. Two minor functions of the legislature is the judicial function and leadership selection. This judicial function occurs when congress judges the election and qualification of its members, punishing and expelling members for contempt or disorderly behavior, and impeaching and removing from office members of the executive and judicial branches. The process of counting electoral college votes falls under the leadership selection function. The constitutio n also devolves to Congress the power to determine the order of presidential succession to be followed in the event that the offices of presidency and vice-presidency are vacant. Q: What is a legislative norm? Discuss the key norms that guide legislators in their duties. A: All human institutions seek to maintain and guarantee their survival by establishing norms of conduct that apply to their members. These norms preserve the status quo and hinders any kind of major reform in how congress operates. Here are some of the key norms of congress. 1. Until recently, apprenticeship was an especially powerful norm in Congress. New members were expected to serve under existing ones to learn the ropes and rules of the game before engaging in any legislative matters. 2. Another norm is members should give substantial attention to legislative work, even though much of it is tedious and politically unimportant. 3. Specialization is another key norm that is less potent than in the past. Members of Congress are expected to restrict their interest, and focus on limited fields of legislation, ordinarily those that fall within their committee assignments or those that have major significance for their states or districts. 4. The norm of reciprocity is an outgrowth of the need of both individual legislators and legislative blocs to aggregate support for their positions. Reciprocity activates the legislature, prompts members to examine problems from the vantage point of their colleagues, underlines bargains of all kinds, helps members to extricate bills from legislative bogs, promotes state delegation unity, and explains voting behavior on numerous proposals. 5. The idea of institutional patriotism is the final congressional norm. Members are expected to display loyalty to the institution and publicly criticizing the institution is frowned upon Research Papers on Legislative ProcessTwilight of the UAWPETSTEL analysis of IndiaQuebec and CanadaInfluences of Socio-Economic Status of Married MalesRelationship between Media Coverage and Social and19 Century Society: A Deeply Divided EraMoral and Ethical Issues in Hiring New EmployeesAssess the importance of Nationalism 1815-1850 EuropeEffects of Television Violence on ChildrenBringing Democracy to Africa

Fourth Amendment forbids only unreasonable searches and seizures Essay
Fourth Amendment forbids only unreasonable searches and seizures - Essay Example The ultimate reason for the Officer searching the container in the car is to gather adequate evidence that prove the suspect illicit act. This stands out that, any evidence established would be worth to use against the defendant, and for further investigations of illegitimate act. In this case, the fourth amendment regards that, when under such circumstances, it is objectively sound for the officer to consider that the scope of the suspectââ¬â¢s approval authorized him to open the container in the Automobile (Legal professionals, 2012). In fact, it would be reasonable for the suspect to permit the Officer to open the container despite being guilt of the offence. Thus, I must conclude that, the evidences should be permitted against the defendant, and arrested if found guilt after carrying out comprehensive investigations. For instance, having seen a paper bag with cocaine clearly shows that the suspect appeared to be involved in a drug

Say no to Racism Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Say no to Racism - Research Paper Example Racism takes several forms ranging from verbal to non-verbal. Verbally, irritating words are used against individualââ¬â¢s f the minority race. Non-verbal racism is the most common. It may involve denial to access certain facilities such as restaurants as well as job access based on racial background. Non-verbal discrimination is evident in particular attitudes and character that not only undermines a certain race but also denies them expected favours. Reverse racism is another form that has evolved in 21st century. As a result of activists fighting against discrimination against blacks, the whiteââ¬â¢s rights have been neglected. Internalised racism refers to discrimination among members in the same race based on minute differences in their physical appearance. For instance, among the blacks, lighter skins might be preferred to darker skinned individuals. Historically people were grouped into different races based on their skin colour that lived differently. This historical contexts as well as existing myths made individuals believe that some races are superior to others. Conservative people maintain this perspective and resist to global efforts of turning the world into a global village. Equalityhumanrights.com, (2015). Poetry Analysis Comparison
Poetry Analysis Comparison Compare and contrast the portrayal of strong emotions in the poems War Photographer, A Mother in a Refugee Camp, Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night and with referenced to: Dulce et Decorum Est , Stealing and The Soldier. The poems War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy, A Mother in a Refugee camp by Chinua Achebe and Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night by Dylan Thomas although they may first seem to have a little in common. However, these three poems are literally very different, in both their historical and social context, yet they are all linked by the same theme Strong Emotion. Strong emotion is a major feeling which can be in any form and can take place at any time. Furthermore this can be a bond in which people help each other to go through suffering and hardships. This essay will mainly concentrate on how each poem conveys the strong personal emotions of the poet through literary devices. In addition to the poems from the anthology, three poems have also been chosen for comparison. These are: Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, Stealing by Carol Ann Duffy and The Soldier by Rupert Brooke. In War Photographer, Carol Ann Duffy discusses the death caused by wars. She writes with strong emotions to convince the reader how horrific a war can be and can lead to endless misery. And through the poem she has use a metaphor he a priest preparing to intone a mass to compare the character as a priest showing how sorrowful the photographer is. Moreover he takes photos during wars which allows him to past on messages to other people about the victims like preaching. Furthermore, the comparison of the photographer and the priest also shows the job the photographer is doing is seem to be very sacred and he takes a high responsibility for this mission. In addition to the metaphor she has used an alliteration spools of suffering to show how much suffering has happened over time and these events can be as long as a spool. And by comparing the time with a spool it also helps set out each event chronologically. In addition the s sound from the alliteration also shows how much picture ther e are and the amount of suffering going on around the world. Moreover, using the technique listing Belfast. Beirut. Phenom Penh. the pauses from this phrase make the reader think about the past events and the list of victims who have died in the past during the war in these places. And this helps to make the reader to consider about the roll of honor for the people. And with the literature devices use from the poem we can understand how the poet has shown her sorrow towards the victims in the wars. In Dulce et Decorum Est, Wilfred Owen has described a gas attack during World War One with his strong emotions. He is strongly denying the concept of serving your country is glorious. The language used in the section about the gas attack represents both the pain of the victims from the gas attack and the effect on those who have seen the scene. Watch the white eyes writhing in his face By using the alliteration and put emphasis to the w sound it is able to reflect the suffering of the gas victims. This imagery is very powerful because we can imagine the change in the victims face and it also suggests that war is cruel and is a waste of young peoples life. Likewise, both poets from War Photographer and Dulce et Decorum Est were disturb by the scenes from wars however Wilfred Owen only wrote about the gas attack which most disturbed him and Carol Ann Duffy wrote the whole poem based on wars in general. Similarly, in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night the poet Dylan Thomas has mentioned about death with strong emotions. However in this poem the relationship is between a son and a father. Dylan Thomas is trying to encourage his father to continue his life instead of showing the weaknesses of human race in War Photographer. And by doing so, a large variety of literacy techniques were used. The iambic pentameter was used throughout the poem which can give a regular beat and rhythm to the readers; this can then help to persuade his father to fight death since the iambic pentameter can give out a continuous sense to the reader. It is like a heart beat which encourages his father to live. In addition to that, assonance was also used. age, rare, day gives out hard sounds when read out which can enhance the effect of iambic pentameter, these punchy sounds also help giving out a stronger rhythm for the poem to increase the sense of persuasion and help amplify the message given to the fath er. Along with the assonance there was also repetition within the poem do not go gentle into that good night. This metaphor was used many times, where good night is compared to death because at the night time people go to sleep which makes a good comparison for passing away. This then help to tell his father not to give up easily and to fight with all his might. Again this is used to give out a stronger sense of persuasion for his father. Furthermore, from the personification old age should burn Dylan Thomas is trying to suggest old people should still have the spirit to fight for their life and shouldnt die so easily and with such apathy. This is very different to War Photographer because Dylan Thomas is showing his angry rejection towards death where else Carol Ann Duffy is depress from the victims of war. And from the techniques used in this poem we can understand the poets strong emotions towards the horrible death and the old age people losing will to live. In Stealing, Carol Ann Duffy also based this poem with the theme of strong emotion by using symbolization. The snowman, stands as a symbol for the loneliness of the characters situation. Because the character destroys the snowman booted him. Again. Again. it is also a symbol to indicate how violent the speaker is. These symbols are powerful because readers are shown the speakers loneliness, where he/she needs to steal a snowman as a mate to escape loneliness. Similarly, in do not go gentle into that good night the poet is affected by the strong emotions because his father is dying and because of the grief it has cause Dylan Thomas to drink more than usual. In comparison to the others, A mother in a refugee camp discusses more about love during a war. When the mother is trying to take care of her son in a refugee camp, every step they take is very important to them because one would die at anytime. And from the structure of poem, we could see that there is only one whole continuous stanza and only two long sentences which connotes there is no end to suffering during that time and death is unavoidable. In addition this long, complex, multi-clause sentence suggests the long, drawn-out suffering of someone dying from starvation. The alliteration behind blown-empty bellies shows the scene of a baby in a refugee camp. The vowel sounds e, i, o and the alliteration b sound suggest the emptiness of the childrens stomachs. How the baby is suffering from long term starvation causing his abdominal to raise up, which can then suggest the baby itself would suffer from death at any moment. There is also an irony, these bellies look full but in realit y they are empty. Additionally , the juxtaposition The air was heavy help connotes how bad the situation is within the refugee camp, with the lack of hygiene it will increase the death numbers of people this can then suggest people should value every single moment of their life because many people are currently dying within the camp. This juxtaposition is very powerful because the unpleasant sensory appeal towards the smell is very strong. The comparatives from the poem In their former life this was perhaps a little daily act of no consequences this mother, despite the imminent death of her son, is still lavishing love on him, by combing his hair. This again shows how deadly the situation is, where a close family member might die in any minute, therefore they need to treasure every time they have together in the refugee camp. Here the poet is describing the famine caused by war (Biafran War) in his native Nigeria. His detailed description illustrates his outrage at the suffering cause by war. And this strong emotion from the poet is effectively passed on to the readers by these literary devices. Similarly, in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night Dylan Thomas has demonstrated his rage towards the old people who accepts death which shows both of the poets has the same strong emotions and is effectively passed on towards the readers. In The Soldier, Rupert Brooke writes about a soldier who loves his own country. And if he should die in a far away battlefield people should still recognize him as a British. Showing how much faith the soldier has towards his country. Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. This strong image creates a sense of peacefulness and a unity with nature. This shows England to be more superior to other places. And force readers to see the place in the same light as the poet. In contrast, in A mother in a refugee camp, people were forced to die, however in The Soldier there was an option for the person to choose, making the situation not as difficult. In conclusion, from the research conducted for the three poems, we can see that these poets have used a variety of structural and literary devices to highlight the power of strong emotions behind each poem. From War Photographer, Carol Ann Duffy has covey the misery cause by war in a very emotional way. As well as in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night the theme was also strong emotions however the idea of the poem was different. Likewise in A Mother in a Refugee Camp strong emotions was also the main theme of the poem. Therefore, strong emotions were the main theme of all three poems and it has provokes a deep emotional response from the readers.

Cultural Difference in Malaysia
What are cultural differences between Malaysia and other countries? In general culture can define as a way of life and process of development of the personality, spirit, mind, and the human effort in a community or cluster. Culture can be understood as the creation of human community in various forms, whether tangible or intangible. Culture itââ¬â¢s very important because it show the difference between societies to another society. The cultural features are obtained through a learning process, practices of sharing and cannot be separated from language. We cannot be denied that the Malaysian culture is very different compare to other countries.Malaysia is a multiracial country living in harmony compare to other countries. Among the three main races in Malaysia are Malays, Chinese and Indian. In addition, Malaysia is a homeland to approximately for 80 ethnic groups, especially in East Malaysia including Baba and Nyonya, Kadazan and Iban. The total of Malaysiaââ¬â¢s population is 28. 3 million of which 91. 8 % are national citizens while 8. 2 % are non-citizen. Furthermore, indigenous people were 67. 4 %, of which 56. 4% are Malays ethnic and 11% of the other natives. Approximately, the total of Chinese ethnic in Malaysiaââ¬â¢s population is 24. %, 7. 3% are Indian with a total of 1. 86 million people, while other race is 0. 7 %. Almost 85 % of Indians in Malaysia are Tamil community. In terms of religion, Islam is the official religion of the Government of Malaysia as subject under the Constitution and the most widely professed religion with the proportion of 61. 3 %. As multi-racial country, other religions are practiced are Buddhism, Christian and Hinduism. In terms of language, Bahasa Malaysia is the official language of the country. However, other races are free to use their mother tongue like Chinese and Tamil.English an international language which play role as a second language in Malaysia and widely used in the fields of education, trade and indu stry. Malaysia national population practices are vary according to their own religion. According to the practice of Muslim believers is to pray five times a day, fasting during the month of Ramadan and eat kosher food. Muslim believers not allowed to drink alcohol, eat pork, do not eat the flesh of slaughtered animals, stealing and committing sins. Buddhist faith practice is to remove their shoes before entering the temple and prostrate statue of Buddha. They are not allowed to kill all living beings, stealing, lying and drinking alcohol. Hindu people required to wash their feet before entering the temple, fasting, tying a banana tree during religious ceremony and wearing black mark (pottu) in the middle of forehead for unmarried women, while for married women must wear red mark called as kum kum. Hindu believer do not allowed to drink alcohol, stealing , lying, give respect for parents and do not allowed to eat beef because according to their religion cows considered as gods. In add ition, each religious wedding ceremony is different. In Malay wedding ceremony, marriage contract and enthronement is very important practice that must be done because itââ¬â¢s a part of wedding. For Buddhist, both bride and groom usually get the blessing from the divine. They also practiced tea drinking custom in wedding ceremony that aims to strengthen family relationship. In Hindu wedding ceremony, the primary witness of marriage is the sacred fire (agni). Both bride and groom need to turn around the sacred fire in circular motion for seven times. Malaysia culture is based on Malay culture as the original people of this region.Malay culture based on Sharia law and Islamic principles. Malay cultural give more important to values and preferred politeness, simplicity and harmony among family members, neighbours and society. Example; in general handshakes suffice for both men and women, although some Muslim ladies may acknowledge an introduction to a gentleman with a nod of her hea d and smile. The traditional greeting of ââ¬Å"salamâ⬠resembles a handshake with both hands but without the grasp. The man offers both hands, lightly touches the visitor's outstretched hands, and then brings his hands to his chest to mean, ââ¬Å"I greet you from my heartâ⬠.The visitor should reciprocate the ââ¬Å"salamâ⬠. Furthermore, in Malaysia culture, the right hand is always used when giving and receiving objects like gift or money. Pointing is normally done using the thumb as using the right forefinger is considered rude. Here is some general gift giving etiquette. In Malay culture, if invited someone home, donââ¬â¢t ever give pig and dog toy to children and donââ¬â¢t give any products that made from pig skin. White and yellow wrapping should be avoided because white symbolizes death and mourning while yellow symbolizes colour of royalty. In Chinese culture, if going to visit relative home, bring a small gift of cake or fruits for children. Giving flowe r should be avoided because flower do not make good gift and usually used at funerals. Besides that, the gift should wrap with cheerful colour like red, pink or yellow except white, blue, or black because symbolizes mourning colours in Chinese culture. In Indian culture, the gift should be given with the right hand and not wrap the gift with white and black colour. In generally, the gift should not open when received to avoid people think you are greedy. The way names are used also varies between ethnicities. The Chinese people traditionally have 3 names. The surname is usually first name and two personal names. Example: Wong Jae Suk. Malay people do not have surnames. Men use term ââ¬Å"binâ⬠, so Kamarul bin Mohamad is Kamarul the son of Mohamad. Instead women add their fatherââ¬â¢s name to their own name with the term ââ¬Å"bintiâ⬠. Indian people doesnââ¬â¢t use surname. Men use s/o to refer themselves as the son of their father. Example: Ajay s/o Abishek. Culture and communication depends on each other and have a reciprocal relationship.According to Hall, ââ¬Å"culture is communication, communication is cultureâ⬠. This indicates that communication is two-way. Different culture held different values. The way we communicate depens on our culture, rules and norms. For example, American usually treats and exchanged with unknown person. Meanwhile, The Malaysia does not prefer to treats or exchanged with stranger. This showed that Malaysia cultural and American cultural are totally different. Malaysia practices courteous communication. For Malay society, interact courteously very important and showed our values of norms. For example, using proper words when talk to someone older than us like Sir or Madam. Besides that, culture is also shown through verbal and non-verbal communication. Speak rude and negative words are prohibited. Malaysian traditional cultural games are batu seremban, wau, mah-jong and kabadi. Batu Seremban and Wau is Malay traditional games, Mahjong is Chinese traditional game, while Kabadi is Indian Traditional game. Batu Seremban also known as a Selambut. This game often played in leisure time by girls, either individually or in groups. Itââ¬â¢s usually using glass marbels or small stones.Wau is known as kite and normally played by rural people. Wau created in various design and has its own name like wau in shape of brid, stingray, peacock and many more in various colour. However, Mahjong played by four individual and it involves strategy, tactics, skill and calculation. In Asia, mah-jong is also popular as gambling. In kabadi, each team consists of five players on the reserve bench and this game played for 20 minutes. A team will be sent forward to the opponentââ¬â¢s team, which aims to touch and push one of the players before turning back to his team. The players who have been touched by the opposing team will be out and left the field. From aspect of the traditional dance, the various custom s and culture can be learned from various ethnic groups in Malaysia. Dance can be defined as a movement of the body, legs and arms to the beat of the music. The traditional dance has own purpose and tribes. Examples of traditional dance in Malaysia are gamelan, zapin, kathak, dragon dance, kathak, bharathanatyam and many more. Zapin dance is famous dance in the state of Johor and usually performed in both formal and informal events like wedding or opening ceremony.Kathak dance is one of the Indian classical dances which are originated from Kerala. Kathak means ââ¬Å"art of the storytellingâ⬠. While, bharathanatyam itââ¬â¢s also Indian classical dance based on Indian epics in motion of dramatic and passionate. Amorous dragon dance is a traditional cultural dance in China. Lion dance and dragon dance often played on Chinese New Year. As a conclusion, this discussion showed dramatically that Malaysiaââ¬â¢s cultural very different compare to other countries. Itââ¬â¢s more follow to the traditional, principle of the religion and give more important to norms, values and rules. I am very proud to be a Malaysian.

Programming software can be good for children Essay
Programming software can be good for children with the correct guidance. Antonio Garcia Vicente at only six years old entered to the young programmers club of Valladolid University to learn how to create video games with the computer and mobile devices. He created his first video game at seven years old to help his classmate to improve their understanding of the classes. Maria Vicente, his mother, and software engineer explain that children, computers and mobile devices are meant to be misunderstood. â⬠Children are capable of doing more things with computers and mobile devices but the elders believe that everything is very delicate, and it is, but children have more imagination and they are not afraid to try things.â⬠(Tosas, 2016). Due to the fact, there is evidence showing that using computers and mobile devices could be harmful to children who are 4-6 years old, the parents and educational institutions can teach the children how to use properly it, can improve their grow th. Opponents said that children who are exposed more than ever to computers and mobile screens are more prone to addiction and depression. Even though specialists in psychology from the Childish Hospital Federico Gà ³mez at Mexico City explain that, these negative effects are avoidable by limiting the use of computers and mobile devices (Univision, 2015). It is necessary to balance the time spent with those devices with other activities important for their development such as physical exercise and social coexistence. Mark Baley, Director of the Pacific University Child Learning and Development Center describes how a 5-year-old child fascinated with the Titanic received an interactive CD-ROM with a large screen computer. As he piloted this virtual tour of the Titanic, friends who wanted to hear the story and see the pictures surrounded him. He had to use the mouse carefully and precisely to navigate this tour. His social skills and small motor skills began to show improvement over a cou ple of weeks (Naeyc, n.d). Opponents consider children between 4-6 years old who use computers and mobile devices at risk of potentially irreversible eye damage because of blue light emissions from those screens. Whereas these conditions can be treated and prevented with regular breaks and blinking, the hazards of accrued exposure to blue light are still relatively unknown. In 2014, a US study showed artificial retina cells grown in a laboratory were destroy when exposed to blue light (Ongaro, 2014). However, they were exposed directly to the blue light for many hours that is why they were destroy. This is because they donà ´t have the natural blinking that children naturally have. The parents have to educate the children to make continuous blinking, take some breaks, do some exercises and look at distant objects for 10-30 seconds periodically, so that children can rest the muscles they use to see. In addition, the new technologies like the fast refresh rate, high resolution, automatic brightness and contrast are in favor of childrenà ´s ocular health. Opponents argue that there is a struggle with obesity because sitting in a chair in front of a computer and mobile devices can trap children between 4-6 years old, without even thinking to go to the toilet. However, according to Health Awareness Community, the advancement of computers and mobile devices will make the next generation more active, not less (2016). With the advances in smart phone technologies and high accuracy GPS systems, there are entirely new fun physical activities for children. The Sworkit Kids mobile app virtual platform for free was born with the mission to turn physical exercise into a game by providing parents and kids with personalized activities focused on improving flexibility, strength, and agility. This app is to motivate children to play sports, is suitable for 4-6 years old, and encourages them to be entertained and motivated. It is evident that using computers and mobile devices on children between 4-6 years old could be unhealthy, but all those arguments are avoidable with the guidance of parents and educational institutions. Those technology devices will not disappear, the children have to be educated to optimize its use. The computers and mobile devices will not negatively affect the childrenà ´s learning capacity if their parents limit the time spent on it and combine it with other activities. The computers and mobile devices now have better screens and children educated to blinking, take breaks and do some eye exercises after their use, so that they will not damage their eyes. With the mobile devices and its technology, children and their parents will be motivated to do some physical exercise to improve their flexibility, strength and agility.

Questions On Plato s Theory Of The Forms - 1875 Words
In this essay I shall explicate and critically evaluate Plato s response to the problem of the One and the Many. To do this, I will outline briefly the emergence of this problem in Greek thought in order to further understand and contextualise Plato s theory of the Forms. I shall then offer criticisms of his theory, both positive and negative, with particular regard for the ontological, epistemological, and cosmological consequences of subscribing to the Forms. I shall then conclude whether or not the metaphysical system constructed by Plato is a convincing and wholesome answer to the One and the Many. The origins of the problem can be found in two places: the natural world, and the rationality of man. The many is present in allâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In the Euthryphro Plato defines the Forms as: unchanging in themselves, that by which the particulars are what they are, and the standard for determining the nature of particulars.1 For Plato, the Forms are both ââ¬Å"transcendent and immanent, inaccessible to the senses, apprehensible only by the intellectâ⬠.2 Not only that, they also satisfy the demands of the Eleatic tradition by following what Parmenides tabulated were the genuine characteristics of being; that it is one, eternal, and immutable. For example, the form of beauty is separate in the sense that it is a subsistent essence that is real, yet not in the sense that it is in a world of its own, spatially separate from things.3 This guarantees its fulfilment of the characteristics of being. Plato s parable of the Divided Line outlines the relation between the Forms and the particulars which possess them.4 Let us imagine a line divided unequally in two. The primary section denotes the world of sense that is the object of sight. This section can be further subdivided into shadows, images, and then objects. The second section is the intelligible world which contains the Forms and the overarching Form of the Good. Reality is therefore hierarchical and linear, there are no breaks in reality. The sensible world isn t real in the context of possessing the genuine attributes of being, but the
